Islam and horses have been linked since the origin of Islam. Even an entire chapter in Holy Quran devoted to horses named “Surah Al-‘Âdiyât”.Intact several Hadiths say about the beautiful creation of Allah.

Imam Abu Hanifa (RA) thinks that consuming horse meat is Makruh Tanzihi due to its honor and because a horse is needed in wars and battles.

Imam Abu Yusuf (RA) and Imam Muhammad (RA) consider it to be halal, and it is said that Imam Abu Hanifa (RA) retreated to this opinion.  Therefore it will be permissible to consume, although best to avoid it.  (Hidayah p.441 v.4)

The perspective of Shia Muslims on horse meat 

There is some debate among Islamic scholars as to whether horse meat is halal for Shia Muslims. Sunni sources tend to allow horse meat, but both Sunni and Shia Hadith prohibit the consumption of mules.

Based on the above explanation and reasoning, I concluded that eating horse is not Haram but makruh and should be avoided. Some health issues arise after eating horse meat.

So if something is not suitable for your health, you should avoid it; instead, you are Muslim, Shia, or a person with no faith.
